The financial devastation that comes from stroke survival is a given and the thing Rebecca says all the time is: 'I wish someone told me" it takes 6 months for disability payments to kick in!
So if you know of anyone that has recently survived a stroke? Tell them to get in touch with their Hospital Social Worker and request the needed paper to file for disability coverage as soon as possible!
Tips
- Ask the hospital if they have a patient Social Worker?
- Fill out and submit all needed paperwork as soon as possible!
- If your patients advocate keep a journal of information from doctors.
- Never give up!
