FEELS LIKE MIRROR THERAPY TO MY BRAIN
As you may know I am a wheelchair bound stroke survivor since September 17th 2010.
So I go to the floor to stretch and meditate almost every day
.
So I'm laying on my back intertwine my fingers and control my affected arm and visualize my affected arm moving the same way as my non affected arm.
.

I slowly touch the top of my head and raise and lower down the center of my body.
I notice my brain is watching my affected side move in unison with my right.
Mmmm maybe something?

ABOUT THE CREATOR OF SECOND CHANCE STROKE SURVIVORS - AARON AVILA
Hi I thought you may want to know who I am.
Currently Age: 52
Born September 1st 1963
Age 47 when I had a major aneurysm and two weeks later had a major stroke:
September 17th 2010
The day the course of my life changed forever!
Deficits: Can’t walk, Dysarthria, Balance issue
Married 22+ years to one of the most awesome and amazing women on the planet! Rebecca Avila

How I truly feel:
I was the type of guy that could do about anything I set my mind to. Cutting down a 80’ tree….no problem! Designing a water or rain harvesting system…..no problem! Running a crew building a 100,000 gallon water storage tank…………..no problem! Running and owning my own companies National Storage Tank and Rain Harvesting Solutions Inc. for over 12 years BS (Before Stroke) done!
Then the course of my life would change forever!
I was doing the day to day grind and I truly believe there was only one thing that would stop me dead in my tracks! A stroke and near death experience!
This event in my life forced me to fully re-evaluate all the things I, like most everyone, took for granted!
Life itself, walking, talking, feeling one with my body, family, friends but I truly believe that I've been given a SECOND CHANCE!
I would come to believe wholeheartedly that this was a type of gift! Yes this stroke is the hardest thing I would ever face!!! But I was alive! Given a gift that the majority of people on this planet don’t have! The chance to live two lives in this one! A second chance to learn not to take it all for granted!
In beginning part of me was so angry, suicidal, and felt ripped off but what I have learned since my stroke makes it all worth it! I should have a big sign on my forehead…….Under Major Reconstruction! I’m far from learning it all!
I would have to say and know with all my heart that if it was not for my incredible family and friends and their support I’d be in a much different place!
Tears of thankfulness run down my face! Go stroke survivors!

CAN STROKE MAKE A PERSON GRATEFUL?
My opinion!
Yes!
In my life the old saying
"You don't know what you had until you lose it"
Speaks volumes to me!
Since my stroke September 17th 2010, I have been touched with such a to my core gratefulness for the life and very air I breath!
I've lost most all my physical abilities but stroke has produced in me a gratefulness for my life and the people in my life like I never had before stroke!
So, I ask, can stroke produce positive results in a person's life? YES!
The only stroke survivor whom I've met it doesn't have this effect on are stroke survivors who are bitter and angry for what stroke has done to them!
This bitter stroke survivor lives their life focused on what they lost because of stroke (victim not survivor) never becoming filled with a gratefulness for their life they now have!
This is the only stroke survivor I have found I can not help!

IT'S ME!
After doing pool therapy for an hour, followed by sunbathing for 45 minutes. The incredible aroma of baking brownies filling the air.............It's 100% me!
Oh yes, as a stroke survivor, I have said things I deeply regret! But my awesome brain only has the power to change the future not the past!
Thank you Rebecca for all you do for me!
Because of you I am what I am!

IT'S WHO I AM NOW
I'm on the floor stretching, haven't walked since my stroke September 17th 2010.
This is coming to me as Zen music is playing insence is burning ..... my meditation time.
I am a man that was given a mighty gift in my stroke, my second chance.
I have been given a God given love for stroke survivors around the world. A love so deep it's to the very core of who I am as a man.
I have been given the honor to tell them what they really are, THEY ARE AN AMAZING AND AWESOME PEOPLE!
Giving them hope and a reason to value their life once again!
Bringing comfort and light into one of the darkest life event a person can go through on planet earth!
STROKE SURVIVAL!
It's who I have become in my second chance.
Your awesome stroke survivors!

DOES STROKE HAVE THE ABILITY TO MAKE AMAZING PEOPLE?
This thought will be in my book "Walk Of Destiny" someday!
Since surviving a brain aneurysm and major stroke September 17th 2010. And after creating a global movement called Second Chance Stroke Survivors, I have had the honor to meet the most amazing people on planet earth!
Who are these amazing people you ask?
Stroke Survivors!
Why?
I can only speak from what stroke is doing to me in the very core of who I am.
Stroke strips everything you may hold on to as your identity. I have 0 exterior things to hold on to as a human being!
Stroke has stripped to the very core of human existence! The love of the very basics of life. Like the very basics of all life, the very breath I breath!
For that very breath, I am deeply grateful for!
I think this occurs in most, not all stroke survivors.
THAT'S WHAT MAKES STROKE SURVIVORS THE MOST AMAZING PEOPLE I KNOW ON PLANET EARTH!

So summer is finally here in California and I'm fortunate enough to own a pool!
Thank's to my Wonder Woman Rebecca Avila (got the saying from my brother Peter in France) first gets me in the pool so I can swim paralyzed stroke survivor style (Professionally trained and certified in swimming stroke survivor style)
So after my swim, I'm getting out of the pool with Wonder Woman by my side, how amazing the sun felt!
So Rebecca got me to the concrete where I laid and sunbathed for an hour or so.
While I was laying there unable to walk, paralyzed on my left side, after Rebecca asked how I was doing? I realized, whole heatedly, that you know, I'm alive when I 100% for sure should be dead! I mean I feel the sun's warm energy on my skin, the birds amazing songs filling the air and the sound of a gentle breeze rustling through the trees.
It's great to be alive!

DO YOU STRUGGLE WITH SELF WORTH LIKE ME STROKE SURVIVORS?
One of darkest, potentially dangerous energies I fight is the emotion of self worth.
What self worth is to me.
Self worth for me is feeling ok with me and my new normal. Sometimes like now, my tolerance with my new normal is diminished. Made worse by perception pain meds (opiates) feeling like you're so messed up physically and mentally and so very frustrated with both your sadness meter is raised.
Do you fight this fight? Do you battle this dark energy?
We must remember we are worth it! We must rise up like a Phoenix from the ashes called stroke survival!
We must never wave the white flag of defeat!
Survivor is our new normal!

ONE OF MANY THINGS EXTREMELY HARD ABOUT STROKE SURVIVAL
I've been blessed with the most incredible wife on planet earth so don't take this wrong!
I hate being a constant "FILTER" up!
My wife has got to be frustrated to the max! I can't imagine!
Running into walls with my power wheelchair ......... blowing holes in the sheetrock of Rebecca's beautiful walls!
Scrapping for no apparent reason other than I'm a stroke survivor, Rebecca's beautiful entire walls with my power wheelchair!
"Would you pay attention" Sounds easy right! OHHHHHHHHHH NO! I TRY!

Tried to nap for 4 hours! Stroke brain would just not SHUT UP!
Finally gave up!
